Vokashi

Thank You,Vokashi, for introducing such a wonderful solution for disposing my food waste!!! Not only is it a sensible solution to discard unwanted waste material, it's actually F*U*N!!! I look forward to emptying my left-overs into my "Little-GREEN-Bucket" and serving my "Compost-Tea" to My Beautiful Plants & Flowers who, by the way, Love it!!!

I am very concerned about the amount of waste that goes into landfills every day. In the past, I had tried collecting my compostable kitchen waste but found I had numerous fruit flies surrounding the bin. It was also difficult for me to get to the community garden as often as I would have liked to drop off the compostable material. I have been using Vokashi buckets and bran for the past few months. There have been no fruit flies and no odor from the buckets. I can see the vegetative material starting to decompose in the buckets. When the buckets are full, I just make a phone call and they are picked up and I receive new buckets and a fresh supply of bran. I am very happy with the system and highly recommend it to anyone living in the city.

I try my best to live as "green" as possible but the kitchen waste was a hassle.  I tried saving the compost to bring to the local community garden but my time is tight with two kids and a husband.  It always seemed to pile up and smell bad and I would end up putting it in the regular trash.  Plus there are so many people in the neighborhood bringing their food scraps to local gardens that the gardens are now full up and are no longer accepting any more.  Then Vandra asked me to try Vokashi.  The 5 gallon bucket is great because it holds so much.  The bran with E.M. is the best - every time I add food waste I sprinkle on the bran and miraculously there is never any bad smell.  It is so convenient - even the buckets are taken care of for me.  Full ones are picked up and I get a fresh, clean bucket with a new supply of bran.  I feel better knowing the food scraps are not being wasted or taking up precious land fill space.  I've really come to love the Vokashi system.

I have always been interested in figuring out how to compost my food waste, but I live in a tiny apartment with no access to out-door space, and I don't have a lot of time to be hauling my food waste around.  I have been so thrilled to find Vokashi!  It is the perfect solution for the urban apartment-dweller with a packed life.  Although I was very worried about pests or bugs in the beginning- and my apartment mates were more than skeptical- we have had absolutely no problems and no one even knows the food waste collection bin is there.  Vokashi arranges to pick up my food waste around my busy schedule and I take great satisfaction in knowing that we are contributing that much more to the planet- changing our landfill trash into compost that can be reused.  Vokashi is convenient and the magic bran-mix and the sealing collection bin take all of the yuck out of the collection, even when my compost sits under the sink for weeks at a time.
