This product is a compost starter.  It works faster, smells less and requires less work.

The Japanese word for ferment organic matter is bokashi.  We use the Japanese EM-Bokashi method.

Our bran ferments food waste by using a mixture of EM•1®, molasses, water and a “carrier”– frequently wheat bran, although other materials like saw dust and rice hulls work as well. The bran, which is inoculated with the effective microorganisms, is added in layers to food waste in an airtight bucket or conta
iner until the bucket is full. The average household takes between one and two weeks to fill a bucket.

The bucket is then left to fully ferment for two weeks. While fermenting, the mix will produce a liquid, which can be drained, diluted and applied as a plant fertilizer.

Another huge advantage of fermenting food scraps is that pests do not like the alcoholic smell of fermentation.  Urban pests are attracted to raw food waste. RATS DO NOT LIKE THE SMELL OF FERMENTED FOOD WASTE.

Once fermented, the material is ready to add to garden beds or soil.  Alternatively, the material can be added to a worm bed, a compost pile or can be fed to livestock; it is loaded with beneficial microbes, vitamins and amino acids, making it extremely healthy.

EM-Bokashi is applied in agricultural and horticultural projects through Asia, Latin America, India, Australia and New Zealand, and Germany, Spain, Italy, Poland and England.
