NYC Department of Sanitation does not accept many hard-to-recycle items such as, All Plastic Packaging, Cosmetics Packaging, Styrofoam™, and Coffee Capsules. As a result, we’re saving, throwing away, or contaminating curbside collections with many items too expensive for the City to collect. Today, that changes!
Vokashi Zero-Waste Service:
We have identified hundreds of common items that can be diverted into 24 easy to identify waste-stream categories. Vokashi is partnering with TerraCycle the mega-recycler and waste innovator, to help households and individuals presort the various hard to recycle items. TerraCycle guarantees all items they accept are recycled or reused or repurposed.
Vokashi stands for a global ban on plastics. Until then, while the load is on consumers, we want to create habits that will save our precious Earth!

We are creating this Zero-Waste Sorting-Service, for those with busy schedules, large households or hard to manage waste-streams.
Community Zero-Waste Collectors & Online Community:
Vokashi will also encourage people to develop an Online Community called Evolution Platform. Any organization, business, individual or media provider can come together to start their own Community Zero-Waste Collector business within their own neighborhoods.

Book and join a 1-hour small group, Zero-Waste Expert consultation session to learn how to easily recycle most everything! Get answers on any questions and discover which services and methods work best for your household or small business. Each of 5-6 participants get about 10-minutes having their own questions answered. Book now for only $25. You’ll be contacted to find the right meeting time for your schedule.

Buy our Zero-Waste Bags (ONE BAG PER WASTE-STREAM), which includes a Free 1-hour Group Zoom Consulting Session OR a 10-Minute In-person Consultation. Includes the cost of initial drop-off of your Zero-Waste Bags and the cost of recycling. When you’ve filled them you will order new bags and we’ll come to drop-off those and pick-up the full ones.

Sorting Services
$77 per 33-Gallon bag; $99 per 42-Gallon bag
Coming soon! A Monthly Pick-up or On-Call Service where you place any of 23 hard-to-recyclable waste-streams ALL INTO ANY ONE 33-42-Gallon (re-used) bag. Note: One additional stream, Cigarette Butts must be placed within their own bag (as to not contaminate the other streams). After sorting and bagging into 33 or 42-gallon contractor sized bags, Vokashi will then collect your large bags, open them up and re-package them into our Zero-Waste Service Collection Bags and send your hard-to-recyclables off to TerraCycle for processing.
You will be pre-billed for the pickup, and an Estimated Labor and Tipping Fee at a rate of $77 per 33-Gallon Bag and $99 per 42-Gallon Bag. If after our final sorting, the actual labor and Tipping-Fees are determined to be greater than the estimated labor and Tipping-Fees, you will be charged any overage (based on a labor rate of $35/hour and the Tipping-Fee schedule below). Note: The average customer pickup should not exceed the estimate unless they have more than 10% “Small-Items” (see Tipping-Fee schedule).

Tipping-Fee Schedule (used to calculate if overage will be charged):
Tipping fee is equal to the amount of material that would occupy Small, Large or Extra-Large Vokashi Zero-Waste Bag.
Small-Items, $7.50 per Gallon: Cigarette Butts (this stream must be bagged separately!), Coffee Capsules, Corks, Cosmetics Packaging, Eyewear, Ink & Toner Cartridges, Media Storage, Oral Care Packaging, Plastic Bottle Caps, PPE – Masks & Gloves, Water Filters, Wires & Cords.
Large-Items, $1.60 per Gallon: Fabrics & Clothing, Office Supplies, Shoes & Footwear, Sporting Goods, and Toys.
X-Large-Items, $1.10 per Gallon: All Plastic Packaging, Food & Drink Pouches, Milk & Juice Cartons, Party Supplies & Disposables, Pet Food Packaging, Styrofoam™, and Used Cleaning Supplies.
Do It Yourself (You Sort)
$45 per 33-Gallon bag; $55 per 42-Gallon bag
Coming soon! A Monthly Pick-up or On-Call Service where you pre-sort any of the 24 hard-to-recyclable waste-streams EACH into THEIR OWN (re-used) bag. After pre-sorting and bagging, you are free to aggregate smaller already sorted stream bags into larger 33 or 42-gallon contractor sized bags. Vokashi will then collect your large bags, open them up and re-package them into our Vokashi Zero-Waste Service Collection Bags and send your hard-to-recyclables off to TerraCycle for processing.
