Vokashi was among an outstanding collection of young, and not so young, women entrepreneurs. Congratulations to all the finalists:

Freedom Tree Mental Health Counseling, PLLC, MAÄT, Mani Mina, Quiayamo Billing Service Plus LLC, Happy Hounds, Stapledon Arts, LLC, Drunken Fruit, Black People Will Swim, Aunt Ethel’s Pot Pies, Harlem Cycle and K-Munchies.

And the early-stage winner was Mani Mina, runner up was Happy Hounds.

Established winner was Harlem Cycle, runner up Aunt Ethel’s Pot Pies.

People’s Award went to Black People Will Swim.

Even as this award lifts our spirits, Vokashi is facing expansion challenges. We are going to spend the next few months considering how to deepen our composting practice and build a robust and permanent home.

We appreciate that the curbside collection is now in Brooklyn and we will step back from this collection for the next month. If we hear from enough people that they prefer our service we will return to Brooklyn.

We will continue to collect from households in Manhattan, and business and educational subscribers in Brooklyn and Manhattan.

Below are some images that you can share on social media.

As always, many thanks for all your support.

Vokashi

For easy composting at home

The goal Vokashi set out to achieve is to decrease the amount of food that ends up in landfills. Most of us don't think about where our food is going when we throw it in the trash, but food waste makes up about 1/3 of the waste in landfills in the US. That's a lot! Vokashi aims to change that by following a Japanese method of fermenting food waste. Vokashi takes your food waste and uses it in a composting system. There are many benefits to composting, but one of the biggest ones is lowering your carbon footprint by decreasing the amount of food waste in landfills, which reduces methane emissions. If you want to learn more about the process or how to get involved with this company, visit Vokashi.com.
